Overview
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Analyzes and determines the operation status, nature and cause(s) of hardware and software problems by reviewing system and equipment performance status reports, screen messages, logs, printouts, etc.; operates diagnostic test software and equipment; follows up to correct system/equipment performance and service quality.
- Performs technical LAN administration functions such as maintaining the system and resolving problems associated with user access information: by referring to technical Information or discussing solutions with other staff; performing daily backups; maintaining logs, updating databases, monitors performance statistics on LAN servers and ensures the optimization of LAN performance; monitors WAN/Internet connection and interacts with senior staff or vendor support to ensure connectivity is maintained.
- Coordinates the purchase of hardware and software; research new standard hardware and software products to prepare technical reports and recommends or rejects the product.
- Installs, coordinates and oversees the installation, upgrading or repair of hardware and software participates in the development, implementation and installation of new or revised systems or system components; prepares or updates documentation or develops new or revised procedures, instructions, manuals, etc.
- Provides technical guidance and advice to users; develops, coordinates and conducts user level training.
- Participates as a member of project teams in major system upgrades and modification projects.
- May act as a LAN administrator as required; monitors Email and web server to ensure proper operation and escalates problems when required.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Qualifications
Completion of a Certificate of Technology from an Institute of Technology in Computer Systems with 6 months of experience as a PC/LAN Administrator in a user level position providing troubleshooting and assistance (or equivalent).
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required
- Ability to diagnose, analyze, trouble shoot and resolve LAN, and PC problems at the desk top user level.
- Ability to analyze hardware and software problems by interpreting screen messages, status reports, printouts, log data, etc.
- Ability to operate and interpret diagnostic software and equipment.
- Ability to prepare test/control procedures, routines, manuals and system user manuals.
- Ability to provide operating guidance and conduct user level training and demonstration sessions.
- Ability to participate in project teams to develop, implement and install new/revised, system components.
- Ability to install, coordinate and oversee software/hardware installation and maintenance projects.
- Ability to conduct LAN maintenance system upgrades.
- Ability to administer LAN procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of problem escalation protocols and procedures.
- Knowledge of PC desktop configuration, operation and related LAN, WAN and network architecture framework, troubleshooting techniques, backup and recovery procedures, computer procedures and documentation techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to operated PC, LAN and mainframe systems.
- Good oral, interpersonal, training, communications and analytical skills.
Additional Info
- Demonstrated experience in a customer facing IT support role will be advantageous
- Experience with administering Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Active Directory and/or Microsoft 365 platforms are an asset
- Real world experience in troubleshooting technical issues and finding a resolution will be advantage
- Relevant experience in hardware (workstations, laptop, etc.) faultfinding, deployment, and repairs will be considered
- Recent graduate of a Computer Information Systems Program or related customer service experience will also be considered.
