    Position Summary:

    Theposition is accountable for all aspects of edge network services and operationswithin Information Technology Services' ( ITS) control. "Edge" networksinclude that portion of the College network between the main campus switchesand the wall plates to which individual workstations are connected, plus theon-campus wireless services. This includes all wiring closets, switches,routers, cabling and cable management, UPS protection, wireless networkingcomponents and/or any backend systems ( server that authenticates wirelessconnections) required to support these services.

    Key responsibilities:

  • Lead in the administration, troubleshooting, and optimization of network products to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Implement, manage, and optimize technologies for application delivery and network security.
  • Oversee the deployment, configuration, and management of wireless networking to ensure a robust, secure, and scalable wireless infrastructure.
  • Develop and enforce network security protocols to safeguard against threats.
  • Employ automation tools to streamline tasks, configuration management, and network resources deployment.
  • Utilize creative problem-solving skills to tackle complex network challenges, fostering continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Researches technical solutions for client initiated Edge Network projects.
  • Ensures alternative technical solutions are compliant with departmental standards, overarching legal and/or other sensitive agreements, and technically feasible.
  • Resolves areas of non-compliance including identification of dependencies.
  • Defines, documents, and presents the preferred solution to the client and ITS Management.
  • Plans the implementation project by developing the technical requirements and budgets for solution delivery.
  • Develops implementation plan and schedule being conscious of dependencies within the project activities, inter-relationships between activities and other departmental projects, supplier, and external dependencies and or time/latency factors, and the college's business cycles, business continuity, disaster recovery and ongoing administration.
  • Performs initial solution implementation and tests against client's functional requirements, modifying and adjusting as needed as per client's requirements.
  • Responds to adhoc requests to resolve unforeseen issues with production edge network services including some programming and scripting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Educationaland Experience Requirements:

  • Three-year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Computer Sciences (BSc) and/or Business Administration (BA) and/or Commerce (BComm) or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) is required.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in progressive positions within an IT department leading to an understanding of the overall business and technical operations of an IT department including the interrelationship between voice, video and data networking, application development and client support with specific expertise and experience in converged data, voice, video, and wireless networking over IP in support thereof.
  • Extensive experience in wireless networking, deployment and management of wireless controllers and access points using IOS XE.
  • Experience with load balancers, especially with F5 BIG_IP LTM.

  • Excellent project management, time management, and configuration management skills.
  • Ability to lift between 20 kg or 44 lbs (, mounting of computer equipment in racks).
  • Demonstrated communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
