We are currently seeking a
Communications Officer to join our team.

The role of the Communications Officer is responsible for developing effective communications plans, and products, annual reports, marketing, branding and creating content for a variety of mediums and delivered through a variety of channels (written, audio, and video) in alignment with the organization's strategic vision.


This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position, reporting to the Director, Clinical Support Services located at Hurontario, Brampton, Ontario. CMHA Peel Dufferin has adapted to a
hybrid working model including a mix of on-site and remote work. Staff is required to have onsite presence 2-3 times, or more if needed, to meet client and/or program needs.

Salary band:
$62, $70,441.99 per year


What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with Management, staff and clients to develop, implement and maintain an effective communications plan.
  • Plan, execute and manage CMHA annual communications calendar, including CMHA's social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram)
  • Research, write, edit, and distribute high quality content, including internal and external publications, press releases, website content, digital content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services. including systemic issues.
  • Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization with prior approval from supervisor.
  • Develop internal communication content and plans to support change management and ongoing projects
  • Support the communications of CMHA's events such as the annual 'Ride, don't Hide' Event and other fundraising efforts
  • Collaborate with CMHA's Education team to organize requests for display and speaking representation at public events for example workplace wellness health fairs.
  • Participate in community development and seek opportunities to participate where applicable to the role
  • Facilitate plans for securing corporate sponsorships with the fundraising team
  • Manage internal branding for all programs including development to distribution of branded materials
  • Ensure communications and activities support CMHA's strategy and are consistent with its vision, mission and brand.

What you need to join our team

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in communication studies, journalism, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in a communications role
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software (e.g.
InDesign/Photoshop).

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership of volunteers is an asset
  • Ability to develop strategic approaches to identify and develop corporate relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders through strong verbal and written communication across multiple mediums
  • Demonstrated experience and strong ability in presenting and developing high quality and professional health education (workshops, seminars, public forums, speaking engagements, media presentations, etc.) to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Welldeveloped and demonstrated knowledge of mental health, mental illness, stress management, antistigma, workplace wellness, mental health system issues and health promotion principles (Knowledge of concurrent disorder, addictions, and dual diagnosis would be an asset)
  • Proficient using Microsoft O
