JOB DESCRIPTION

Kitco News is hiring a producer to assist in the creation of business and crypto video news and multimedia content for our rapidly expanding channel.


The producer should be proficient in all aspects of digital video production including scripting, booking guests, shooting, and editing digital video pieces and packages under tight daily deadlines.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

Must have the ability to find new and entertaining ways to present information, new angles to approach stories, and possess the organizational skills to bring it all together.

The producer must be social media savvy.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with the anchors to pitch and develop new story ideas, sources, and interviewees.
  • Research topic and question ideas.
  • Pitch original story ideas and evaluate potential stories.
  • Book interviews and conduct preinterviews with show guests.
  • Supplement videos with appropriate graphics and a Broll.
  • Set up shoots and interviews, including coordinating travel, logistics and schedules.
  • Assist in the scripting process, as directed and when needed.
  • Write articles based on video content.
  • Create attentiongrabbing headlines for various mediums.
  • Post videos and written content on all Kitco channel platforms and social media in a timely manner.
  • Select video clips for social media.
  • Work closely with video editors and production crew.
  • Factcheck throughout the production process.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:


  • University degree in Journalism with a strong knowledge or interest in Finance/Economics or University degree in Finance/Economics.
  • 4+ years' experience working as producer in digital media.
  • Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills, and editorial judgment.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in news and current event, knowledge of cryptocurrencies, blockchain and fintech required.
  • Three years of broadcast producing/writing, reporting or newsgathering experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing and copyediting skills.
  • CMS and digital editing skills.
  • Excellent writing and researching skills.
  • Ability to think quickly during breaking news.
  • Existing rolodex of newsmakers, experts, analysts and influencers in crypto, blockchain and fintech a huge plus.
  • An enthusiastic and positive attitude, cooperative, energetic, teamoriented.
  • Strong production vision; ability to envision a segment or package and turn it into reality.
  • Experience in newsroom content management systems (ie. Drupal, WP) and rundown management tools (ie. iNews, Rundown Creator etc.)
  • Field production work and experience working and coordinating with all necessary resources in remote location preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong editorial judgment.
  • Flexible and willing to support breaking news and coverage as needed outside normal working hour.
  • Effective group and individual communication skills.
  • Previous experience working on social media, video editing and/or search engine optimization in a competitive news environment preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and work under deadline.
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes on weekends and/or extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news. Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice if needed.
  • Excellent English (written, spoken and read).
