The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) works in collaboration and partnership across Alberta Health Services and with all external partners to support innovation and improvement in Indigenous Health and to work towards health equity for Indigenous peoples and communities.

The IWC has a significant opportunity to improve the health of Indigenous Peoples in Alberta by focusing on upstream efforts and health equity, creating and building on community empowerment and action, and transforming health service delivery to address racism and focus more on determinants of health and prevention.

The IWC is the mechanism through which AHS plans to achieve ongoing provincial improvement in Indigenous health, patient outcomes and experience, health improvement and sustainability of Alberta's health system.


Description:

The Manager, Clinical/Medical is responsible & accountable for the overall operational leadership of the Indigenous Wellness Clinic & its programs located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the Edmonton Zone.

This includes fostering a culture of high quality, collaborative care, continuous improvement & the effective deployment of resources.

As the Manager, it is required to actively participate in budget planning, resource allocation, workforce optimization, performance development/management & recruitment/retention strategies.

This position requires skills in change management, strategic & collaborative leadership & the ability to engage a multidisciplinary team in providing patient & family centered primary care.

The Manager is also responsible & accountable for management & supervision of the Senior Advisor who oversees the overall administration, coordination & implementation of the Indigenous Wellness Program Clinical Alternate Relationship Plan (CARP) provincially to provide &deliver primary health care physician services to Indigenous Peoples in their communities throughout Alberta.

As well, creating & responding to opportunities for engagement with Indigenous Peoples & communities regarding primary health care services beyond physician services with key stakeholders such as AHS Zones, Indigenous Services Canada, Metis Settlements & the Metis Nation of Alberta in order to develop & maximize the effectiveness of high quality, accessible, culturally informed & sustainable primary health care services in urban centres, rurally &/or remotely for Indigenous Peoples in Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in nursing, Allied Health and/or other health discipline.

Minimum 5 years' work experience in an Indigenous organization representing and serving Indigenous Peoples and their communities including their healthcare needs.

Minimum 5 years in leadership management role including program planning in healthcare and/or a clinical healthcare setting of significant size, complexity and diversity.

Minimum 5 years' experience working in a primary care and/or healthcare setting.


Additional Required Qualifications:


Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree (MPH, MHA, etc).

Knowledge of and sensitivity around the culture, health issues, treaty rights, jurisdictional issues, historical impact and geographical diversity of the urban and rural Indigenous Peoples and communities in Alberta.

Ability to speak or understand an Indigenous language from Alberta. Knowledge and experience with Indigenous cultural protocols, traditions and healing methods.
