OPTICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION
Dispensing opticians help fit people with eyeglasses, following the prescriptions prescribed by their optometrist or ophthalmologist.

They take into account a person's facial features, occupation and habits to assist them in choosing the best eyeglass frames, lenses and lens coatings to fit their needs.

Opticians take the PD (pupil distance), give specifications, including prescription, material, style, color, fitting height and size to the lens labs to manufacture the lenses.

When the lenses arrive at the clinic, they are given to the lab technician so that they may cut the lenses into the eyeglass frame.

Some dispensing opticians may perform this task themselves. When the glasses are made, they reshape the frames to fit a patient's face.

Dispensing opticians also repair and fit glasses that a patient already owns. Additionally, they instruct patients on the use and care of their glasses.

In addition to helping patients with their eyeglasses, dispensing opticians have administrative duties, such as keeping records of payments, customers' prescriptions, inventory, sales and work orders.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service

• Listen to your patient's needs meeting their expectations.
• Make recommendations and be confident with what's new in technology, fashion trends.
• Take careful PD measurement, and optical measurement, heights, lens selection.
• Clean frames and sunglasses

Sales

• Dispense Glasses/Lenses, knowledge of materials and optics and patient flow in the clinic, answer calls, and book follow up appointments.
• Discuss lifestyle needs, M-F, and weekend personal and professional needs, sports hobbies, work.
• Educate and use your expertise on lens products, warranties and options.
• Sell accessories: be knowledgeable.

Other duties

• Post dispensing calls
• Order and receive stock frames + ready readers, accessories, parts, cases, goggles, nose pads, temple tips, cleaners.
• Fill in 3rd party forms and complete insurance forms for patients
• Adjustments and repairs: do and invoice correctly
• Summarize any eye health recommendations: pharmaceuticals and vitamins
• Check all outstanding invoices, orders/dates, lab dates sent, p/u area for holds and orders not picked up.
• Month end reconciling of invoices and statement
• Dust optical showroom
• Clean and clear optical showroom
• Inventory

Job Types:

Salary:
$19.00-$25.00 per hour


Schedule:

• 8 hour shift

Supplemental pay types:

• Commission pay
