    The job:

    Our Heavy Duty Technicians will safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform maintenance on Company owned or leased heavy duty diesel and alternative fuel trucks, and equipment including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safely, so our Drivers can continue to keep local neighborhoods clean and safe, by courteously and efficiently providing waste removal and environmental services to customers.

    A day in the life* of a Heavy Duty Technician:

    • Arrive at the work station that services a large fleet of approximately 200 vehicles including all waste and recycling vehicles, off loaders, skidsteers, forklifts.
    • Meet with your Supervisor and the team where tasks will be assigned for the day, you may work independently or alongside other technicians.
    • Perform assigned labor tasks, which may include:
    • Preventative Maintenance, including basic vehicle servicing to engine or transmission overhaul
    • Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy duty trucks and equipment
    • Complete reports, work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties
    • Plan and schedule repairs in M5 planner and procure all parts for successful plan
    • Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedule
    • Complete other responsibilities, as requested by management
    • Mid-shift, take a hard-earned break
    • Attend to service calls as needed, or emergent situations in the field.
    • Perform afternoon assigned tasks, either continuing tasks from the morning or starting new ones
    • Before heading home, clean up your work areas and wrap up where tasks where possible to make for a smooth next day.

    What's required:

    Heavy Duty Technicians must be able to:

    • Have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired
    • Have minimum of one (1) year experience as a diesel mechanic
    • Computer literate, have the ability to be trained on software systems and the willingness to learn.
    • Meet relevant criteria for safety sensitive functions according to Company standards
    • Use diagnostic software a plus
    • Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records
    • Operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job
    • Possess physical ability to perform all aspects of job
