Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Food Services Manager/ Executive Chef, the Cook prepares meals which contribute to a balanced, nutritious, and appealing meal service for the residents of Villa Marguerite.
The cook provides leadership to the Food Service staff, promotes food safety while maintaining an orderly and sanitary work area.
Responsibilities also include ordering of food and supplies and inventory control. Treats residents with dignity and demonstrates an attitude of caring.The Cook ensures a commitment to resident safety and to our "culture of safety" as per Park Place Seniors Living (PPSL) Strategic Directions.
This is a temporary full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm.Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years experience in similar position.
- Journeyman's Cook Certificate and/or recognized cooking program is an asset, but not required.
- Must be certified in Safe Food Handling course.
- Must be physically fit and in general good health with the ability to push, pull and lift a minimum of 50 lbs and be able to be on your feet for long periods of time.
- Effective written and oral communication skills in the English language
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment and general safety
- Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to stay focused
- Reliable with attendance, working with all scheduled shifts in their entirety
- Clear criminal record security clearance with Vulnerable Sector included (no more than 6 months old)
- Appropriately dressed
- Must be able to work independently, and as part of the interdisciplinary team
- Successful applicant must be fully vaccinated
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares and serves daily meals and any special meals according to menus, recipes production sheets, diets, and schedules, using portion control to avoid waste under the direction of the Food Services Manager/ Executive Chef. Prepares meats, vegetables, and other foods for cooking.
- Estimates food requirements to eliminate waste and leftovers.
- Responsible for direction of staff engaged in food preparation food service, and overall cleanliness and operation of the kitchen.
- Participates in and assists with the preparation of food for special functions.
- Check's equipment and work area frequently in order to maintain a safe, sanitary, and orderly environment.
- Report's repair and maintenance requirements to supervisor or maintenance worker.
- Signs for deliveries when necessary and ensures food items are received in good condition and are stored properly.
- Completes and renews Safe Food Handling Course as required by legislation and PPSL policy.
- Responsible for attending related in-service, education programs and resident food committee as required.
- Responsible for the safe performance of all duties.
- Performs other related duties are required.
