    Under the supervision of the Manager, Income Assistance and in accordance with the Social Assistance Act, regulations, policies and departmental procedures, the incumbent will be responsible for the integrated delivery of the Income Assistance Program and ensuring that all clients are positioned to make workable, productive choices. Counselling may include referrals to appropriate agencies to address employment barriers.

    The Income Assistance Worker is responsible for providing services to the community for a variety of Income Assistance programs including Social Assistance, Child Day Care Subsidy, Seniors' Fuel Subsidy, and Nunavut Seniors' Citizen's Supplement Benefit.

    Due to the fact of that the Income Assistance Worker is often in a different community than their supervisor, they must work with a high degree of autonomy and independence to adjudicate eligibility and establish entitlement using problem-solving techniques, judgement, precedence, legislation, policy and procedures.

    The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job would be attained by Grade 12 and two (2) years related work experience.

    This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

    The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
