About the job:

Services and Housing in the Province (SHIP) is a leading, non-profit organization in Ontario. SHIP specializes in providing services to vulnerable individuals in our community. These include housing, addiction, and mental health services.

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Donor Engagement Lead to join our team.

In this newly created position, you will be responsible for developing a Donor strategy, increasing our donors, enhancing key donor relationships, collaborating with communications for marketing/communications, and attending engagement and donor events.

This position fosters positive and long-term donor relationships that are critical to the philanthropic support of our organization.

As part of the Community Development team, they will create a culture of gratitude, inspiration, and accountability by engaging donors through meaningful recognition programs, impactful reports/communications, and engaging donor experiences and events.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Expand existing donor base through the development of a donor engagement strategy in support of SHIPs strategic objectives
  • Coordinate and execute fundraising campaigns to meet the organization's targets
  • Support the development of a broad range of donor engagement materials to foster longterm, meaningful relationships
  • Design and implement strategies for maintaining existing donors, and recruiting new donors, increasing community and member engagement through consistent and compelling outreach, recognition, fundraising, and events
  • Cultivating and soliciting current and prospective major gift donors through tailored stewardship programs both virtual and facetoface
  • Manage the timely flow of our grant cycle. This includes management of grant proposals, recommendations, and agreements along with written content as appropriate
  • Tracking active donations with precise attention to detail through the implementation and management of SHIPs donor management software system
  • Provide regular donor engagement and grant reporting to the SHIP senior Leadership Team and Board through donor management software and the creation of a donor dashboard
  • Collaborate with other SHIP departments to optimize grant funding for the organization

Qualifications:


  • 3 years experience in marketing, donor engagement, communications, or another related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business, marketing, communications, nonprofit management)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient understanding of the various legislation and codes of conduct that govern donor rights and fundraising activities (e.g., legislation, AODA, Ontario Human Rights Code, etc.)
  • Experience with donor management software
  • Strong ability to foster and maintain meaningful relationships with members of the community
  • Proven ability to work with multiple internal teams to create successful synergies
  • Able to work with mínimal direction or supervision
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:


  • Day shift (Monday
  • Friday) 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. with the ability to work excess/overtime hours were required. Evening and weekend events may be required based on work demands
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
  • Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
  • Vehicle travel to attend events, meeting with potential donors and businesses
