Consideration will be given to women, Indigenous people, visible minorities and persons with disabilities.Reporting to the Operations Training Manager, the Operator Training Coordinator (OTC) maintains the Operator Training Program. The position is responsible for developing methodology and the technical standards for the Department's Operator Training Program.
In addition, the incumbent is responsible for working with regions and branches to support consistent and efficient operator training throughout the province in accordance with the Departments safety and Risk Management policies.
The incumbent will conduct program gap analysis, periodic inspections and audits of workplaces regarding equipment, operations and maintenance activities. The incumbent also provides technical and consultative services to support other operations within the Department.This position also provides mentorship and coaching for all Operator Trainers throughout the province.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Able to work extended hours, including overtime and on weekends, including holidays as required.
- Must have successfully completed MCT Core Training (Level 13)
- Must possess Traffic Control Coordinator Certification
- Must be able to travel frequently to various work sites within the Province
- Must possess current and valid National Construction Safety Construction Officer (NCSO) designation.
- Must possess valid Class 3 Driver Instructor Permit.
- Must possess Hazardous Materials Information System certificate (Trainer)
- Must be a Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) instructor
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the required job duties (lifting/carrying 125 kg, walking, sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles, and wearing personal protective equipment).
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Must possess current an Operator Training Card and have experience as an Operator Trainer.
- Extensive operational knowledge of commonly used highway maintenance equipment and materials.
- Experience delivering Maintenance Career Training or other required safetyrelated courses or presentations.
- Knowledge of Department policies, specifications, procedures and guidelines as it relates to the Operator Training Program and Maintenance.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment including experience working with outside agencies such as contractors, consultants and vendors is required.
- Knowledge in the areas of occupational, safety, health and risk management including policies and procedures.
- Experience conducting and documenting incident investigations, hazard analysis and risk assessments.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, video production, file conversion, and photo editing software.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with other employees, the general public, contractors, provincial departments, agencies and stakeholders.
- Ability to train, coach, and mentor others in best practices, continuous learning, and selfdevelopment.
Duties:
The Operator Training Coordinator maintains as well as develops the methodology and technical standards for the Departments Operator Training Program by:
- Identify the provincial Operator training and developmental needs through job analysis and regular consultation with the Operations Training Manager and Departmental staff.
- Develop and maintain the Train the Trainer and Capable Person training standards to ensure consistency for the Operator Trainer Program.
- Consult with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing division of MPIC to ensure internal enhanced commercial driver training content is current and applicable.
- Ensure training material and messaging are up to date for legislation, department policies, programs and procedures.
