Overview:

Term:2 years


Reporting to the Learning Environment Supervisor in Information Systems & Technology's (IST) Instructional Technologies and Media Services (ITMS) group, the Information Systems Specialist (Learning Environment) (ISS(LE)) is part of the LE support team that spans multiple departments, including IST, the Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE), and the Centre of Extended Learning (CEL).


This role is contingent on funding.

Responsibilities:


  • The incumbent is responsible for providing both business and systems analysis, as well as technical support, configuration and administration within Waterloo's online educational technology (EdTech) environment that includes our learning management system (LMS), LEARN (D2L Brightspace), and other EdTech tools
  • This role will analyze teaching and learning needs and complex systems solutions that span the EdTech ecosystem and impact students, staff, and faculty
  • The incumbent will work closely with campus stakeholders, CTE, CEL, and other IST groups to understand basic pedagogical factors behind the EdTech tools in order to identify and implement effective and appropriate solutions
  • The incumbent will be an active participant in current EdTech projects that introduce improvements to current processes, systems, user training/support, and governance structures while also working directly with stakeholders to understand and address their needs towards operational support issues with their use of the LMS and other EdTech tools
  • Key competencies for this role include business and systems analysis, project and relationship management, customer support and service, creative problem solving, organization & planning, communication, and teamwork
  • Occasional work outside regular business hours may be required

Qualifications:

  • University degree required, or equivalent education and experience
  • Experience with educational technology systems preferred, particularly D2L Brightspace (LEARN)
  • Experience with departmental and/or enterprise level business and systems analysis is required
  • Comprehensive experience implementing and supporting complex systems required
  • Accreditation in Business Analysis (e.g. International Institute of Business Analysis designations) is a strong asset
  • Proven ability to leverage strong leadership competencies in support of providing excellent client service required
  • Excellent problemsolving abilities along with demonstrated experience in customer service required
  • Experience in project leadership or project management a strong asset
  • Intermediate knowledge of continuous improvement practices a strong asset
  • Proven experience working with complex cloudbased software platforms required
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication, organizational, research and analytical skills with proven ability to interact with coworkers, clients, and thirdparty vendors with tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients is key
  • Must work as part of a team within a busy and dynamic environment, with experience addressing multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines effectively and assessing priority activities that need greater urgency
  • Proven experience with responsibilities and accountabilities of using privileged System Admin access to systems, to maintain integrity of the system and its data
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and delivering consistent outstanding results on projects and other work assignments
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and develop skills within different tehcnologies
  • Proven experience with responsibilities and accountabilities of using privileged System Admin access to complex systems, while maintaining the integrity of the system and its data
  • Understanding of a university environment with demonstrated ability to deal with staff, faculty and students with tact anddiplomacy is preferred
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills to provide training, documentation (including web), requirements solicitation and facilitation, and professional responses to team member and stakeholder requests
  • Capacity to work well independently, as well as collaborate with team members
