his is a full-time contract role till March 2024 with the possibility of extension.


The 360°kids Nightstop program is a community solution to help put an end to youth homelessness in the York Region.

The program trains volunteer host families across the Region, so they are ready and able to take homeless youth into their homes on both a short-term and long-term basis.

The Youth and Host Family Worker will support youth served by the 360°kids' Night Stop program to secure and maintain housing and assist the Program Coordinator in sourcing and training host families who will provide short and long-term housing options within York Region.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Completes intakes for the program in various locations across York Region, identifying any health, safety, or legal issues, sources of income, ID, and current housing status and provides access to basic needs including food, clothing, and transportation assistance for the youth.
  • Matches youth with host family and supports in the initial meeting with the host family and Provides, or arranges for, warm transfers to host families for youth.
  • Relationship building and assessment of youth to ensure successful fit for the Nightstop housing program.
  • Connect with the Nightstop guest within 24 hours of their Nightstop stay to discuss how it went and to potentially make arrangements for the next evening.
  • Coaches and supports youth and acts as a positive role model, mentor, and support for youth as they learn new skills.
  • Assists youth to access community programs and provide resources, informal counseling, referrals, and advocacy services within their community.
  • In partnership with the client, develop a housing plan suitable to their needs and assist the client to identify potential housing.
  • Make referrals to 360kids programs and services. Proactively follow up with the client on a regular basis to monitor progress toward housing goals. Assess and revise case plans as required.
  • Liaise with other 360kids staff to ensure an effective transition into longterm housing programs or to facilitate the implementation of family mediation.
  • Review and update the plan as appropriate and ensure program delivery is inclusive and embraces diversity at all times.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with other agencies relevant to our clients.
  • Conduct interviews, home assessments, pet assessments, and vehicle assessments with volunteer hosts and drivers.
  • Assist with Night stop volunteer training sessions, graduations, and socials. Performs daily checkins with host families to confirm availability; ensure that youth stays were as expected, resolve any issues that may have arisen; and provide any additional information and support, as needed.
  • Maintain uptodate file on each client including case notes and referrals.
  • Maintain the confidential storage and security of all clientrelated information and Ensure practices and procedures exist that ensure the ease of retrieval of all program records while ensuring confidentiality of information.
  • Marketing, outreach, and promotion of the program to youth and volunteer host families and the community.
  • Promote, schedule, and conduct presentations/workshops for YRDSB and YCDSB students, teachers, guidance counsellors, and social workers.
  • Represents 360°kids to the social service network, regulators, and the general public. Promotes the public relations activities of the program and is aware of the public relations activities of the organization.
  • Works with Program Coordinator and Manager to ensure program success while positively contributing to 360°kids as an organization.
  • Completes all mandatory recording and reporting including daily documentation and statistical data collection. Provides reports and related information to the Manager of SHINE Programs as required and in a timely manner

Education & Skills:


  • CYW Degree/diploma or completed postsecondary education in a related Human Services discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with streetinvolved youth and awareness of homeless, sexual, mental health, abuse, and addiction issues youth currently face.
  • WHMIS training and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention & ASIST training is an asset.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification and Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).

  • Strong administration and leadership skills including motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, empowerment, and demonstrated initiative.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of working with youth, including an understanding of the regulatory environment (e.g. CFSA).
  • Demonstrated clientfocused counselling skills and role modelling.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
