Summary
As a Member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Human Resources (DHR) will provide leadership, guidance and administrative oversight in all functional areas of HR including recruitment, performance management, total compensation and recognition. The Director of Human Resources provides expert, consultative Human Resources services to the associates of the Hotel, and works in collaboration with the HR team, including the Larco HR teams, and the Hotel General Manager.
What You'll Do:
The Director of Human Resources will fulfill the responsibilities below:
- Oversees the day to day administration functions of Human Resources, including payroll and benefit inquiries and general associate inquires.
- Ensures HR policies, Handbooks, training and onboarding materials are kept current and up to date.
- Is an active participant in Hotel Committees including the Joint Health & Safety Committee, Associate Representative Committee, etc.
- Demonstrates and promotes the companies values by working with internal and external customers including associates, teams, senior leaders, and community stakeholders in alignment with organizational and HR policies and procedures.
- Oversees the leading and managing of the day-to-day HR operations through leadership of the HR Manager.
- Collaborates and provides support on social media initiatives.
- Demonstrates a wide scope of HR acumen, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment
- Demonstrates Hotel, company and Brand Values in the performance of all duties including facilitating associate events and celebrations.
- Handles sensitive issues with associates and/or guests with tact, respect, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Builds positive working relationships with associates by providing competent, timely service to build a renowned associate culture of trust.
- Provides counsel to management/supervisors, and associates on a wide scope of HR issues, including interpretation of HR, labour and employment policies and laws.
- Oversees HR management systems, benefits and WSIB responsibilities.
- Researches, reports, and implements strategies on various HR topics and issues.
- Oversees the recruiting process, works with managers to build, inspire, lead, and develop strong teams through effective recruiting, training, coaching, communication, team building, and succession planning.
- Continuously improves knowledge and understanding of current and emerging HR issues, strategies and tools and initiates discussions with the HR team re: new opportunities to achieve HR development goals.
- Assists the Corporate Director of HR with compliance issues to minimize exposure to liability.
- Works with the Corporate Director of HR in the collaboration of information and knowledge sharing across all Hotels in Canada.
- All other duties as assigned by the General Manager and Corporate Director of Human Resources.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Minimum 5 years of Human Resources Management experience required
- Degree/diploma in Human Resources or Hospitality Management would be considered an asset
- Advanced knowledge of Windows, including Word and Excel
- Previous experience with payroll and or Human Resources Management systems would be considered an asset
- Experience working in a Unionized environment would be considered an asset
- Ability to manage, motivate and develop members of the Human Resources Team
- Must possess excellent coaching, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Ability to take initiative and to be a self-starter
- Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail is essential
- Must openly embrace change and have the ability to stimulate and support creativity and innovation in others
- Ability to multitask, with strong administrative & organizational skills is essential
- Desire to work in a team based environment
