Summary of Role:


The role of the
Quality Control Inspector is a key support function to Zeton's Quality Control Manager (QCM) and shop supervisors in the fabrication of pressure vessels, and pipe for projects to meet ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sec VIII Div 1, CSA B51, National Board and ASME B31.3.

The work will be under the direct supervision of the QC Manager.


Primary Responsibilities:


The position will involve the following tasks:

  • Ensure all QC aspects of the QC Manual for the construction, installation, repairs and alteration of code items in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sec VIII Div 1, B31.1 and B31.3, the National Board Inspection Code and CSA B51 are being followed at Zeton.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Quality Control Manual within the company.
  • Responsible for ensuring welders are working within the essential parameters of the appropriate WPS.
  • Responsible for inspection of pressure vessels, and piping at Zeton and at outside fabricators to ensure that fabrication is within Zeton specification.
  • Maintaining controls (including material marking, welder qualifications, and welding consumables) and documentation as per the QC manual.
  • Ensure pressure gauges used during testing meet the work instruction and QC manual requirements.
  • Performing incoming material inspection for pressure vessel work.
  • Developing new control measures and procedures to address shop fabrication issues as needed.
  • Measuring quality related parameters to improve welding performance at Zeton.
  • Creating inspection test checklists for pressure vessels and piping.
  • Liaising with the authorized inspector to ensure inspections are performed and documentation is completed correctly.
  • Completing Pressure Vessel Data Reports.
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers, and staff to ensure the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers' specifications.
  • Reporting and maintaining nonconformities for pressure vessels, and piping.
  • Participate in ASME / B31.3 audits when scheduled.
  • Interact closely with engineering and the production supervisors.
  • Operating Positive Material Identification unit to verify material composition.

Required Skills/Experience/Knowledge:


  • Ability to visually assess welds and reject or accept them.
  • Ability to diagnose weld failures because of nondestructive testing and suggest technique improvements to reduce the likelihood of failure to happen again.
  • Ability to use MS Office is required.
  • Experience with ASME BPE would be an asset.
  • Experience with orbital welding.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years' experience in the inspection of piping and / or pressure vessels.
  • Experience in interfacing with TSSA inspectors and relevant provincial and federal standards and regulations.
  • Experience in other quality systems (i.e. ISO 9001:2008) along with excellent organizational and document control skills would also be valuable.
  • Knowledge of the ASME related to quality control tasks would be an asset.
