Position Summary:


The Manager Counselling role within the multi-campus Student Wellness Centre serves several functions: primarily clinical leadership and overall supervision of direct service of the counselling teams on both Waterloo and Brantford campuses.

Clinical intervention with students will primarily involve triage and crisis counselling during peak times of the academic year.

Case management functions including decisions around service provision, scope of care, oversight of ongoing level of service, and appropriate referral practices.

The multi-campus Manager Counselling role is responsible for oversight of counselling policies and procedures, programming, personnel, and needs of all Laurier students at all campuses.

Provides outreach and consultation to other student areas (Eg. Residence, Dean of Students, Athletics, Laurier International Student Support, Academic Advisors, Accessible Learning Centre, Teaching and Learning) relating to mental health and support for students.

The Manager also leads mental health training for the Laurier community including safeTALK, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, and tailored education sessions.


Accountabilities:


Clinical Leadership - 80 %

  • Develop, maintain and update clinically related departmental policies and procedures for the Student Wellness Centre
  • Facilitate the development, implementation and review of Student Wellness Centre counselling programs, services, activities and operational policies and procedures, including allocation of personnel resources based on staff expertise
  • Leading the recruitment, interview, and onboarding process for new counselling hires
  • Ongoing supervision and management of performance evaluation of counselling teams.
  • Provide triaging support to reception staff in complex cases
  • Research and maintain currency with respect to professional standards and government regulations for services. Standards include record keeping, confidentiality and all other ethical requirements of the profession
  • Support and direct or delegate the development of group counselling programs/workshops, collaborate with Wellness Education on scheduling of workshops/groups and other mental health related events such as Thrive Week
  • Collaborate, support, and encourage the creation of a cohesive team within the Student Wellness Centres
  • Represent the Student Wellness Centres at new faculty orientation, new chairs and directors training sessions, and other community related training on mental health issues
  • Meet regularly with the Director of the Student Wellness Centre, ensuring the Director is aware of clinical operations as well as personnel issues
  • Provide guidance of a clinical nature regarding setting goals and objectives for programs, individual staff and the Student Wellness Centres based on the needs of the student population
  • Liaise closely with student support personnel and service areas. This includes, but is not limited to, working closely with the Dean of Students, other Student Wellness Centre professionals, Accessible Learning, Learning Services, Residence Life, Sexual Violence Response and Special Constable Service
  • Develop and maintain relationships with campus and community resources
  • Serve as a contact point for external constituents (parents, as well as hospital personnel and other community
