Position Highlights
***We are looking for a full-time lawyer to join our Properties Legal team for a period of approximately 12 to 18 months.

provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in the area of property law on a variety of projects and matters,
including with respect to First Nation reserve lands, treaty lands, and Federal and Provincial Crown land tenures. While the
range of real estate matters may be varied, there is a focus on working closely with business groups and project
teams to provide guidance and legal advice on the interpretation, drafting and negotiation of real estate related
lawyers and external legal counsel as required for business needs.

What you'll do

As a member of the Properties Legal team, your responsibilities would include:
Understanding and effectively communicating BC Hydro's corporate values, vision, priorities, risks and initiatives.
Providing high quality, timely legal advice at the practical and strategic level with respect to property law issues.
Providing legal support in a variety of real estate matters, including with respect to First Nation reserve lands, treaty lands,

and Federal and Provincial Crown land tenures.- Interpreting, drafting, reviewing and revising real estate related documents, including for acquisitions, dispositions, leases,

licences, permits and rights of way on privately owned, First Nation and Crown lands.- Communicating legal and strategic risks in an effective and concise manner.

Working through legal issues to identify practical and innovative business solutions that assist BC Hydro in achieving its

business objectives.- Working with other lawyers, both in-house and external legal counsel, on certain files and, if required, managing the scope

and budget for work done by external legal counsel.

What you bring

You will have a current membership (or eligibility for membership) in the Law Society of British Columbia, plus a minimum
You have strong drafting, negotiating and interpersonal skills, and are able to communicate effectively.
You are confident working with our business teams and are able to understand business objectives.
You have excellent judgment when managing complex issues, especially under tight time pressures.
You enjoy working in a team environment.
It would be an asset if you have experience working on real estate matters involving First Nation reserve lands, treaty

lands, and Federal and Provincial Crown land tenures.
