Assistant Operations Superintendent position for the Trenton Generating Station.

Key elements of this role include:

  • As Assistant Operations Superintendent, you will support the Operations Superintendent and the plant team in leading the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the thermal generating station and all associated assets.
  • You will acquire a thorough understanding of the thermal production process and be able to manage operations in accordance with NSPI strategies.
  • You will develop relationships and effectively interact with the plant team.
  • You will be responsible of the operation of the chemical laboratory and adherence to the Industrial Operating Permit.
  • You may be required to fulfill the duties of Chief Power Engineer as defined by the Power Engineers Act.
  • You will be responsible to assist and support the Operations Superintendent with leading and directing a highly skilled work team as the business may require.
  • You will join Nova Scotia Power's team of dedicated professionals whose goal is to exceed our customers' expectations in delivering reliable and costeffective energy and services.
  • You will support and lead capital projects, continuous improvement and operating procedure and process initiatives as you continue to grow your operational competency, leadership strength and business knowledge.
  • You will be responsible for personal safety, that of your coworkers and those under your direction by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives. In addition, you will be responsible for supporting safety excellence initiatives.


You will be responsible to ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to Power Production.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position.

As such, you must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.


These skills will make you successful:
To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • You must have Second (2nd) Class Power Engineer certification or be a Professional Chemical Engineer. First Class Power Engineer ticket will be considered and asset.
  • You must have a minimum three (3) years of experience in a thermal generating station or industry with similar processes.
  • You must possess excellent communication and motivational skills. Demonstrated leadership capabilities will be considered an asset.
  • You must easily cross organizational boundaries to work effectively as part of an integrated team.
  • You must be available for after hour consultation and emergency plant work.
  • You must possess a valid driver's license and locate your principal residence within one hour of the generating station.
  • You contribute to a workplace where everybody goes home safe and believe that nothing is more important than the safety and health our employees.
  • You demonstrate integrity with a high standard of work performance for yourself and your team and drive operational excellence for our customers.
