About the Position

Bringing new technologies into existence is hard work, and nobody knows that better than the pilot operations team.

In a science-driven material technology company, the pilot operations team does the heavy lifting— sometimes literally— of scaling benchtop chemistry and engineering concepts to produce data and generate product samples.

Perhaps even more than mechanical aptitude, creativity, and the ability to work with a goal-driven team on a deadline, the plant operations role calls for grit and determination.

If impossible is not a concept that sits well with you, the pilot operator role may be for you.


You will be responsible for:

  • Autonomous adherence with all safety policies, procedures (SOP's), and management of change protocols
  • Autonomous reporting of near misses, incidents, & unsafe working conditions
  • Completion of regular safety audits and identification of hazards to the Shift Lead
  • Comprehensive understanding of all unit operations of the pilot facilities
  • Executing operational changes within the operating envelope with approval from Process Technical Lead
  • Executing scientific experiments
  • Data collection & documentation
  • Contributing to the creation of detailed written reports
  • Identification of opportunities for process optimization
  • Edit/modification of existing SOP's
  • Maintaining operations facilities
  • Ability to safely transfer small liquid volumes of chemicals that could be flammable
  • Completion of equipment and facility inspections
  • Training of new operators
  • Assists management of reagent/supplies inventory & procurement efforts
  • Position requirements:
  • Exhibiting basic understanding of scientific first principles
  • Assist the Process Technical Lead/Process Chemist when needed during the campaign
  • Comfortable wearing PPE (FR uniform, steel toe boots, airpurifying respirator, safety glasses/goggles, Tyvek suit) for extended periods of time
  • Critical thinking and good judgment to maintain a safe working environment
  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts safely in a manufacturing environment
  • Observant and capable of discerning specific information valuable to report
  • Detailoriented
  • Inquisitive, lifelong learner, highly adaptable
  • Willingness to show vulnerability and admit mistakes
  • Enjoys a varied/challenging work environment
  • Strong, honest, verbal and written communication skills
  • Completed college coursework in science or chemical manufacturingrelated field or has at least 6 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Chemical handling experience (ability to discern warning on chemical labels and match PPE required for handling)
  • Scientific or chemical manufacturing background
  • Mechanically inclined (i.e., troubleshooting, handling of tools, can perform regular maintenance)
  • Experience with highpressure, hightemperature equipment is a plus

Salary:
$25.00-$60.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
