The Opportunity:


Accountable to the Managers of the Ambulatory Surgical Care and Ambulatory Care & Atlantic Canada Poison Cetnre, the Clinical Leader Development (CLD) plans, develops and implements educational activities at a program/team based level across the Children's Health Program, to foster the development of competencies (in staff).

Participates actively in the development of Children's Health Ambulatory Care staff through coaching and mentorship and by sharing knowledge and resources, and providing feedback.

Provides clinical practice support to all health care team members and patients. Functions as a change agent by thinking reflectively, assessing alternatives and supporting change.

Participates in the recruitment and selection of personnel to attend appropriate education programs, events, conference, etc ensuring limited resources are allocated fairly and equitable.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide orientation to new staff members and preceptors including roles and responsibilities; Acts as resource to preceptors for on-going preceptor development; Coordinates learner placements for nursing practice; Acts as a clinical resource related to patient care, continuing education, development and/or review policies, objectives and guidelines.

In collaboration with Professional Development Consultant, plans educational programs to meet identified learning needs; Acts as a liaison among health care team members in identifying trends in patient care.

Acts as a liaison with other IWK CLD's/Rehab Coordinator to initiate and facilitate Program and Centre wide initiatives including Accreditation.

Uses knowledge of theories of human communication and interpersonal relationships to facilitate communication among staff; Provides leadership in the delivery of evidence-based care and facilitates the integration of research into meeting established patient care standards/ guidelines / protocols; Seizes informal and formal learning opportunities to educate colleagues and; Supports care area based strategic plans and initiatives.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday (7.5h and 3.75h shifts) TBD


Your Qualifications:


  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with Nova Scotia College of Nursing required.
  • Master's Degree considered an asset.
  • Five (5) years clinical experience in Pediatric Nursing Care required.
  • Five (5) years clinical experience in Pediatric Ambulatory Care preferred.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in providing constructive feedback required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be nonjudgmental, with the ability to facilitate change required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures as they pertain to Children's Ambulatory Medical Care populations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and selfdirected with excellent organization, time management and problemsolving skills required.
  • Demonstrated superior communication, interpersonal, and decisionmaking skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to create an environment where ongoing learning and development is promoted and supported required.
  • Instructor level registration in appropriate life support courses (e.g. BCLS) an asset.
  • Competencies in other languages considered an asset
