The Opportunity:


The Professional Development Consultant (PDC) is a key member of the Learning Team, providing consultation, service, and support related to learning, organizational development, and personal and professional development for individuals, teams, programs, and the organization across all sites affiliated with IWK Health and community partners.

Service is delivered to all employees, physicians, and volunteers at all levels.


The Professional Development Consultant (PDC) is an expert and person-centered adult educator who demonstrates leadership in developing and supporting education, personal and professional growth, organizational learning, and organizational development amongst the IWK Health workforce.

The PDC contributes to organizational success through the assessment, design, implementation, and evaluation of strategic learning programs; providing education and support for change initiatives and other strategic initiatives; promoting learning; and providing consultation and service related to individual, team, program, and organizational personal and professional development.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday; 75 hours bi-weekly


Your Qualifications:


  • An undergraduate degree in a health profession is required.
  • Master's degree in health or educationrelated field (commensurate experience in health and education if master's degree is in another field).
  • Adult Education certification required (if master's degree is in an unrelated field)
  • Three years of recent experience in the adult education field and/or organizational development field in a healthcare environment (Educational program design, implementation, and evaluation; Application of adult learning theory and personcentered principles and Strategic organizational development) required.
  • Demonstrated excellence with educational program design, implementation, and evaluation including teaching and learning facilitation at the individual, small, and large group level required.
  • Excellence in interpersonal and interpersonal communication skills and relationshipbuilding required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the ability to educate, coach, and mentor others.
  • Extensive understanding of the Canadian health care system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in personcentered ways with individuals, teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to integrate the above knowledge and skills in an everchanging environment.
  • Demonstrates accountability for practice by providing a rationale for decisions and actions, acknowledging errors and taking corrective action, consulting with others as necessary, being selfdirected, and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own practice by complying with applicable professional standards, Code of Ethics, Health Centre standards and policies.
  • Demonstrates a high level of selfawareness, recognizing own strengths and limitations, and is able to be critically reflective and reflexive.
  • Demonstrates ability to initiate, manage, and prioritize multiple initiatives, projects, and activities.
  • Works independently and collaboratively with diverse teams throughout all sites affiliated with IWK Health.
  • Identifies a broad range of centerwide and external resources to assist programs and teams in setting goals, establishing priorities, and selecting interventions
  • Collaborates with team members and promotes teamwork to build interprofessional capacity
  • Demonstrates problemsolving and decisionmaking skills to gather information, analyze, recommend courses of action, and evaluate.
  • Accepts accountability for relationships, decisions, and actions.
  • Displays innovation and creativity in the performance of the role.
