Planner 1 (Long Range & Community Planning):
Temporary Full-Time

The Planning & Development Department is looking for a temporary full time Planner 1 (Long Range & Community Planning) to join their team until approximately August 2024.
Reporting to the Manager, Long Range and Community Planning, this position requires knowledge in a variety of areas related to long range planning.
This exciting position provides the opportunity to influence and create actionable policy in directing growth and working towards the City's vision to be "The Healthiest Small City in the World".
You will use your skills in developing and supporting long range policy, technical land use support, data collection and analysis, undertaking studies, participating in the implementation of the Official Community Plan (OCP), Community Wellbeing Strategy, Housing Portfolio, Zoning Bylaw Update, and other long range planning initiatives.
You will liaise with various internal and external contacts, answer inquiries, and provide information to other departments and the public.
In addition, you may participate in public meetings, and public engagements and provide various planning groups, committees, and Council with technical and professional expertise and guidance, as well as, prepare Council reports.
You will have a University degree in Community / Regional Planning and some professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Sound knowledge and experience in the analytical and research techniques and methodology in municipal planning is required, along with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia.
Strong project management, problem solving, and effective communication skills are an asset. You will be required to attend evening Council, committee and public meetings. A Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of BC is also required.
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
Salary:
$44.78 to $52.91 per hour (January 2021 rates)
Pay Grade 28
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
