Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties of the Safety and Health Specialist (SHS) includes development and monitoring of the Project safety program. In addition, the SHS will communicate the safety program requirements to all Project contractors and subcontractors).

The SHS will be familiar with all applicable safety codes and guidelines, and also be informed about the program's labor relations, health, hazardous materials, and workplace hazards associated with the program work activities.

Additional duties and responsibilities of the SHS include but not limited to:

  • Working knowledge of the OHSA and Regulations made under the Act as applicable to the project/work area
  • Advisor to client teams regarding environmental, health, and safety related issues associated with projects, tasks, and operations
  • Assist in planning, developing and oversight of EHS policies and procedures for adhering to local, state, and federal regulations that impact HDR projects
  • Conduct safety training as needed for HDR staff in
  • General awareness and program orientation, First Aid/CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, and other training requirements as needed based on the program work activities and tasks
  • Monitor compliance with Client's EHS program requirements
  • Act as EHS liaison between Client, HDR and Field Staff
  • Review and manage safety program paperwork/records for the Client
  • Monitor the safety trends from contractor field/office safety observations and/or incident reports for the Client in order to improve program safety performance
  • Monitoring job sites to support program safety culture, best practice policies, regulatory compliance, and Client requirements
  • The Safety and Health Specialist position reports to OLTA Safety Lead.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other appropriate science required.
  • A minimum of 3 years technical experience or educational equivalent (minimum of associate degree) in occupational health/safety related field )
  • Safety Professional certification in CRST, NCSO etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software
  • Effective communication, training facilitation and technical writing skills
