The Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all unexpected deaths in the province, all children's deaths, deaths in designated institutions, deaths in police custody and all deaths due to accident, suicide, and homicide.
The coroner investigates to determine the identity of the deceased and when, where, how and by what means death occurred.
Coroners may also make recommendations, where appropriate to prevent similar deaths in the future. The chief coroner may also direct inquests or death review panels into one or more deaths when warranted.
The Manager/Coroner, Strategic Communications and Media Relations, has responsibility for managing or developing plans to manage high profile or emerging issues, coordinating all public information releases, developing and implementing a strategic communications framework for both internal and external agency communications, and liaising with government communications.
Job Requirements:
- Relevant educational and training background such as a university degree or diploma, preferably in communications, public relations or English; or, an acceptable combination of education/training and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years current, progressive public relations/communications/media experience, preferably in a medium to large organization.
- Experience identifying, managing and advising senior management on highprofile, sensitive issues.
- Experience organizing, managing and leading multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Experience with communications principles, concepts and methodologies including issues management, media relations and media production.
- Experience building and maintaining productive relationships, and effectively negotiating, consulting and resolving conflict with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience presenting and explaining decisions, policy, and practices clearly and concisely to senior officials, media, industry, and stakeholder representatives.
- Experience preparing and drafting a variety of communication materials including plans, strategies, issue papers, policy or guidelines, ministerial correspondence, reports and presentation materials.
- Experience acting in the role of media spokesperson or presenter to public audiences.
- Experience writing for a variety of audiences in a variety of formats, including press releases, briefing or issues notes, and CP Style articles.
- Preference may be given to applicants who are accredited members in a professional association (e.g. CPRS, IABC).
