At Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, we have an immediate opening for a Cook If you are an experienced and customer focused Cook with a positive attitude and willingness to grow and develop, we want you


What You Will Do:


  • Responsible for the management, training, coaching and mentoring of kitchen crew
  • Assist with recruitment and scheduling according to business and projected goals for labour budget
  • Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between coworkers
  • Plan and conduct period/monthly meeting with culinary and stewarding team
  • Meet with customers to discuss for special occasions and special needs
  • Attend and participate actively in all required meetings
  • Maintain and develop proactive relationships with partners, schools, suppliers and accounts
  • Direct, coordinate and participate in food preparation, mainly for dining room but not limited to banquets
  • Maintain food production to business levels and monitor work performance. Direct and coordinate activities of culinary crew
  • Plan and price dining room menu items with assistance from food and beverage controller and management team; considering such factors as seasonal availability of ingredients and the business volumes
  • Assist food and beverage controller with food cost controls, food tracking and inventories to ensure budgeted food costs
  • Assist with ordering of supplies. Participate in the verification of all purchases to ensure quality and account for each delivered item
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards and ensure that crew is responsible for the same
  • Attend and participate in any industry trade shows as required

What You Need to Succeed:


  • Diploma or equivalent from an accredited culinary program
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar environment
  • Red Seal Certification required
  • Previous experience managing, coaching and mentoring a team
  • Financial acumen
  • Excellent knowledge of Hot Line, Restaurant and Banquet production
  • Excellent knowledge of kitchen safety standards and procedures
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Sound decisionmaking abilities and sense of initiative
  • Ability to work with limited guidance in a fastpaced environment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Eager to achieve and promote high standards
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 30 lbs and standing for long periods of time
  • Must be available to work days/evenings/weekends and holidays
