About the Role:


Reporting to the iSucceed Manager, iHuman 's Social Workers are an integral part of the team, responsible for and committed to youth engagement, utilizing creative approaches to harm reduction and trauma-aware practices.

The iHuman Social Worker provides one-on-one support through healthy relationships to know and meet youth's needs, assisting to move them forward in life.

In addition, the Social Worker collaborates with other helping agencies and workers.

This dynamic position allows the Social Worker to use social work theory to co-create creative youth programming to arts to support youth.

This position works 37.5 hours/week from Monday to Friday, with some evenings and weekend hours may be required.


What you would do:


  • Support and work with traumatized and marginalized youth to plan, deescalate crisis, and organic goal planning at iHuman.
  • Make connections between youth and outside resources to meet their identified needs, such as funding, housing, or other basic needs (food, ID, showers)
  • Create opportunities with youth to develop their leadership and mentorship through innovative programming at iHuman and through community outreach
  • Provide youth with a reliable, accepting group environment to foster artistic and educational opportunities at iHuman
  • Work collectively with iHuman staff to best support iHuman youth
  • Work with youth to access health care and successfully navigate the criminal justice system (police, court, probation/parole)
  • Transport youth to and from appointments with various organizations and agencies
  • Advocate to the necessary agencies to support the youth
  • Attend service team meetings for youth, with Children's Services or other agencies
  • Duty to report concerning behavior and activities regarding youth safety
  • Maintain communication and relationships with CFS Workers to support young people better
  • Establish connections with resources in the community that align with iHuman's values and young people
  • Reopen files with Children Services if young person requests
  • Present information and resources in working with marginalized and traumatized youth to different educational institutions and agencies around Edmonton
  • Conduct organizational tours of iHuman
  • Conduct new youth registrations
  • Maintain youth outreach files
  • Write letters of support for youth
  • Complete incident reports when required

Qualifications:


  • Minimum twoyear diploma certificate in social work, registered with Alberta College of Social Work, and ability to carry professional practice insurance
  • Frontline experience with a youth serving agency
  • Skiils in supportive listening, deescalation, relationship building, suicide prevention, and risk assessment
  • Experience working with traumatized and marginalized youth from a harm reduction and traumaaware philosophy and practice
  • Experience with goal setting, identifying support, both internal and external, career planning, budgeting
  • Strong Interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of contributing factors to substance use such as mental health issues, intergenerational trauma and abuse, and criminalization of marginalized communities
  • Conflict resolution, debriefing experience and/or training
  • Ability to manage personal/professional boundaries
  • Group work experience including how to run effective group programming and group processes
  • Artistic skill and capabilities are a strong asset
  • Computer competency with Mac and PC
  • Must be able to pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
