Summer Contract: Machine Operator - Brampton, Canada - Almag Aluminum
Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Machine Operator are detailed below, but not limited to the following:
- Operate all machines in the department in an effective and cost-efficient manner while maintaining good quality and safety standards
- Check samples periodically and ensure they match the first piece sample check
- Ensure the first piece sample is double checked by other plant personnel
- Ensure material is identified for shape number, work order number, and quantity. If material is being used from stock, have the stock number identified on the work order
- Ensure material is checked for proper cut length
- Report any equipment malfunction.
- Ensure ontime order completion
- Comply with all quality related policies, procedures, and system requirements
- Perform the required preventative maintenance checks daily
- Ensure proper handling of material
- Ensure samples are properly labelled and kept together for traceability while following 5s procedures
- Provide feedback to supervisors on shapes which produce a poor yield and resolve any issues and discrepancies
- Use material handling systems properly to avoid damage to product
- Responsible for cleanliness and maintaining good housekeeping for the machining area throughout the shift, and ensure the condition of the machinery for any issues or mechanical problems prior to machining
- Adhere to work order instructions for specific customer requirements
- Participate in shift handovers and communicate any issues, priorities, etc. so that the following machine operator is setup for success
- Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Grade 12 would be an asset with a technical and/or mechanical aptitude
- Minimum of 12 years of experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Experience working on a saw is an asset
- Experience working in an extrusion environment is an asset
Technical Skills/Competence
- Must be familiar with precision measuring instruments and have the ability to read drawings
- Willing to be trained
- Must have an understanding of measurements, tolerances, and basic math comprehension
- Must be able to lift
