In April 2020 Adventure Place, The Etobicoke Children's Centre, Griffin Centre and Skylark Children Youth & Families amalgamated to form Lumenus Community Services.

Lumenus Community Services has an exciting opportunity for a
Provincial Youth Outreach Worker who is responsible for connecting with youth, addressing their immediate needs, providing advice, and facilitating access to resources in the community.

The Provincial Youth Outreach Worker will also help to empower youth, families, and groups in the community to act on the issues affecting their lives including health, education, employment and the community environment.

PYOW's provide regular client service outside of the office and in the community, such as client homes, schools, homeless shelters, outdoor spaces such as parks, coffee shops, etc.

depending on what is most accessible and safe for clients.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Community Outreach and Consultation:

  • Reaches out and engage youth and community members in activities that promote strengths and resiliency, inclusive of youth with disabilities, newcomer youth, Indigenous youth, Black youth, youth of colour, and LGBTQ youth.
  • Acts as an advocate and work in collaboration with youth to address identified gaps in services and to promote equity and access.
  • Provides youth with information, contacts, referral services and supports as needed to facilitate access to programs, services and opportunities.
  • Mentors and counsels youth consistent with agency Mission, Values and Philosophy to encourage social inclusion and equity.
  • Works collaboratively and flexibly with youth and their families as well as cross sector service provider partners (i.e. school boards, police, and youth service providers).
  • Attends community meetings and effectively liaise, network and build partnerships with various community organizations (i.e. community or neighborhood associations, schools, places of worship), public and private agencies, businesses, and government departments, in order to develop a system of supports and promote opportunities for young people.
  • Supports the establishment of positive and safe environments in local middle and secondary schools.
  • Develops and facilitates interactive workshops and accessible knowledge exchange activities for youth and families as well as service providers on topics of mental health, substance use, harm reduction, disability justice, antiracism, antiblackness, antihomophobia, ant transphobia, and other related topics as determined by participants, as well as accessible service provision to, and capacity building for youth.
  • Develops and implements innovative outreach strategies, including use of social media, communication and digital technologies to promote the program.
  • Participates proactively in funding development to support initiatives that are centered on the needs of youth and community members.
  • Works in partnership with program team, supervisor, agency staff and all relevant stakeholders, as well as support volunteers and placement students, in implementing programming initiatives.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Results orientated, selfdirected to set priorities, resolve problems and accomplish goals.
  • Completes administrative documentation accurately and on a timely basis (i.e. updating of data systems, summarizing statistics of service, written reporting on project related activities etc.) as required.
  • Attends Community Connections and CFSS program meetings, as well as general staff meetings and monthly YOW meetings at Jamaican Canadian Association.

Promoting to Address Service Gaps:

  • Advocates and works in collaboration with youth to address and promote equity and access.
