The Position
The Project Manager, PMO is responsible for providing support to the Director of IISD's Project Management Office in leading their efforts to streamline IISD's overall project and portfolio management approach, and in establishing and implementing a project management framework, best practices, and governance methodologies.
Moreover, over the coming year, a significant focus for the position will be on the implementation of the institute's systems and IT transformation initiative.
The Project Manager, PMO will be engaging with project managers across the organization to effectively support the transfer of knowledge and capability needs to/from them and the IT team.
Responsibilities
1. Strategic support to the Director PMO will include
- Supporting the adaptation of project management methodologies and processes to best suit the needs of all institutional stakeholders involved.
- Helping select, implement, and manage appropriate tools for the different roles in project and portfolio management.
- Contributing to the deployment of tools that support project management best practices and providing the appropriate level of information capture, reporting, control, information sharing, and management insight.
- Providing support for the identification of efficient options and steps to improve/optimize operational processes and methodologies in project management.
- Coordinating the PMO SharePoint site architecture.
- Responsibility for maintaining existing information on the PMO current, and relevant.
- Coordinating the upkeep of the pipeline of new proposals and funder activity across IISD.
2. Active engagement with IISD's systems transformation initiative, including
- Support the engagement and interaction between the project managers and the IT team involved in the systems transformation.
- Ability to simplify complex technical jargon into methods or procedures so that the project management team, unfamiliar with the technology, can understand the proposed changes.
- Support the implementation and testing of solutions to meet the needs of the end users, at various levels within the organisation.
3. Training and coaching
- Helping develop guides and training tools for project managers and project assistants in the processes, methods, and tools.
4. IISD Communities of Practice
- Participating in regular group meetings, identifying priorities and preparing summary documents outlining these priorities and strategies to address them.
- Coordinating and moderating meetings; helping define agendas and meeting outcomes, as well as priorities and strategies to address their recommendations, including the provision of structured summaries and associated documents on the individual topics.
- Helping to identify options to further improve existing project learning, knowledge transfer, and information sharing, including better alignment of remote teams and establishing a structured document resources centre.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 58 years of proven work experience as a PMO Manager or in a similar role.
- Relevant experience with the development of institutional processes, policies, and guidelines.
- Relevant experience with digital transformation projects.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, including an ability to manage multiple tasks ranging in demand while working under tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and technicalities.
- Excellent organizational and technical abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant Project Management training and/or certification is an asset.
- Ability to work as part of an international, geographically distributed team as well as independently and with limited guidance.

Hydrid, where IISD has offices or remote
Term:80% FTE
Salary:
Salary commensurate with experience and location
Canada:
CAD 67,000-70,000
Start date:
As soon as possible.
