    KEY OBJECTIVE:

    The Senior Financial Accountant will have strong technical accounting knowledge and will ideally have experience working in the financial services industry. The successful individual will require minimal supervision and be proactive in problem-solving. The Senior Financial Accountant will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a team environment. The successful candidate should have 3-5 years of previous experience gained primarily in a financial services environment. Experience working within the Property & Casualty insurance industry would be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the monthly accounting close process including ensuring the recording of all transactions into the general ledger, preparation of the trial balance and other financial reports, performing account reconciliations and other monthly reporting;
  • Preparation of the quarterly OSFI financial statement filings;
  • Assistance with monitoring regulatory capital;
  • Preparation of the quarterly internal and annual audited financial statements including the related notes, in compliance with IFRS;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Completion of University degree in a relevant field, and CPA designation (or actively pursuing);
  • 3-5 years of financial reporting experience, ideally gained within the insurance or financial services sector;
  • Practical understanding of the finance function, combined with a clear understanding of general accounting;
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities combined with a good business sense;
  • Strong initiative and the ability to meet new challenges with a positive and proactive attitude;
  • Exceptional customer service focus and the ability to act as a consultant, provide guidance, and seek out solutions proactively;
  • Ability to gain credibility with customers, including all levels of management;
  • Excellent communication skills and a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
