PROFILE


This position supervises the activities of employees, as well as hands on work responsibilities, in one or more of the following areas: billings, payables, receivables, trust, collections and file opening.

This position receives limited direction or guidance; tasks and objectives are accomplished independently.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee employees within their area, including managing the workload within the group to ensure the fair distribution of workload and ensure that work is carried out in a consistent manner and all deadlines are met
  • Responsible for work produced by their group including identifying and recommending solutions to issues
  • Train new staff with respect to the accounting system, policies and procedures
  • Acts as the liaison between internal/external clients and accounting personnel utilizing various channels and resources to answer enquiries
  • Assists in making recommendations affecting accounting policies, staffing, and performance development
  • Reviews accounting transactions within their area of responsibility, providing guidance and direction, to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies
  • Reviews trust bank reconciliations
  • Prepares posts and / or upload journal entries
  • Releases bank wires nationally including GCI payments and in Toronto
  • Complete and review daily reconciliations which include trust reconciliations, accounts payable to bank reconciliations, and daily review sessions for AP and other ad hoc reconciliations as required
  • May act as contact payables person in the absence of Accounting Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years relevant experience, with at least 1 year supervisory experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other Firm members, with the aptitude to take care of clients' needs in a professional and courteous manner
  • Capacity to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Produce a high quality and quantity of work product, occasionally under tight timelines
  • Able to prioritize and to redefine priorities when necessary
  • Handle stress in a businesslike manner
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Aderant Expert accounting system will be considered an asset
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision
