COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Full-time position

The Board is currently seeking a Communications Officer to join our dynamic team.


Reporting to the Director of Education, the Communications Officer is responsible for coordinating and implementing a marketing/communication strategy that reflects the values of Catholic education.

As a member of the Communication team, the Communication Officer will liaise with the Senior Team, colleagues, the media, our schools and other stakeholders to ensure key messages are communicated effectively.

With a focus on building a positive profile, the individual will use their highly developed communication and multi-media skills to promote the Board, including school and system news.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
A university degree or diploma in communications/public relations/marketing/journalism and related employment experience, showing progressively more responsibility and on-the-job success.

Excellent understanding of strategic public relations best practices with experience developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive communication programs.

Proven ability and experience in preparing media materials, such as press releases and fact sheets.

Exceptional oral and written presentation and communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to develop, maintain and promote positive relationships with key media outlets and other community and educational partners.

Strong working knowledge of communication principles and practices.

Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills.

Working knowledge of Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Good understanding and working knowledge of brand building and brand management.

Developed photography, videography, and related editing skills.

Knowledge of graphic design, Web page, and other marketing-related software tools.


Proven professional experience in the digital environment, social media, and good knowledge of related tools and technologies - Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social websites, and publication and presentation software.

Understanding and commitment of the Board's strategic priorities.

Excellent discretion and ability to work with mínimal supervision.

Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

French fluency is an asset.

Ability to provide regular attendance.


KEY ACTIVITIES
In addition to coordinating and implementing the Board's communications strategy, duties and responsibilities include:
Providing effective media relations and serving as a first contact for media inquiries.

Providing public relations and communications specialization for all aspects of the organization.

Liaising with affiliates, community organization, and other organizations as required.

Preparing speeches, material, briefs, news releases, bulletins and pamphlets.

Providing strategic communications advice, counsel and support to senior administration, trustees, and to school and Board department staff.

Provide communication support in addressing issues in a timely and effective manner.


Identifying opportunities to promote and enhance the organization's image by building a profile in the media for our success stories, issues and viewpoints.

Assist in the creation and editing of written, video and photo content.

Make use of analytics to improve programs and campaigns.

Implementing a strategic program to increase recruitment and retention.

Production of a variety of internal and external publications (e.g., blog, media releases and advisories, reports, brochures, ads, etc.).

Attending regular Board meetings and committee meetings as required.

Planning and coordinating special events.

Coordinating and supporting the Board website and handling social media outreach.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary range is $61,541 - $76,935 annually and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
