Job purpose
Coordinate asphalt operations and oversee employees at construction sites.

The Foremen will be the point of contact for employees, clients and management and is responsible for competent completion of each assigned project.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • Decipher construction drawings/specifications and implement a plan to bring project to completion.
  • Communicate regularly with Project Managers and Coordinators regarding work performed, projects completed and any issues or concerns that arise.
  • Delegate jobs/tasks appropriately to subordinate employees.
  • Ensure daily production requirements are achieved.
  • Supervise assigned onsite employees in all facets of construction operations.
  • Daily review of operator equipment inspections and scheduling maintenance where required.
  • Use foresight to plan each step in current jobs as well as the requirements of the next assigned project.
  • Order appropriate materials and equipment in a timely manner to ensure availability at the appropriate time in the project.
  • Meet at assigned location on a daily basis at start of day.
  • Ensure completion of all COR components and safety paperwork.
  • Complete and implement traffic protection plans.
  • Complete and submit timesheets and other job related documentation to head office daily.
  • Review daily cost to ensure on track to meet bid/budget.
  • Attend industry events and represent Steed and Evans in a professional and competent manner.
  • Complete winter duties as required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Asphalt Paving:


  • Establish line and grade based on survey layout.
  • Communicate with asphalt plant, truck drivers and dispatch.
  • Work with internal and external quality control to confirm materials are appropriate and meet the required specifications for each project.
  • Lay asphalt to specified thickness and ensure proper finish.
  • Ensure compaction is met.
  • Order trucks and material for the following shift based on predetermined schedule.
  • Manage a team of 78 employees.
  • Coordinate $5,000 $200,000 in crew labour, equipment and material daily.

Physical requirements:


  • Moderate Physical Effort e.g., bending, reaching, carrying moderately weighted items, walking, standing, operating equipment, or holding body in one position for an extended period of time.
  • Managing working relationships within the department and with other departments.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods.
  • Constant interruptions requiring the ability to stay focused.

Direct reports

  • All front line workers.

Health and Safety


Working in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all Steed and Evans policies and procedures inclusive of Health and Safety policies.

Working in a manner that ensures a safe working environment for themselves and other workers. Use or wear protective equipment as prescribed and report to Management any hazard identified in the work environment.

  • Ensure that workers and Foremen work in a manner that puts their health and safety first at all times.
  • Ensure that workers use the correct measures and procedures as required.
  • Ensure that workers work with protective equipment or devices as required.
  • Ensure workers use or wear the Personal Protective Equipment, clothing or devices as prescribed or identified as required for the job task.
  • Advise a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health and safety of the worker of which the Foremen is aware or made aware of.
  • When required provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be used by the worker.
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of the employee.
  • Conduct ongoing observations of worksite acts and conditions to identify areas of opportunity for improvement, (note: actively observing the project for hazards is expected of all our Foremen and where conditions are serious, stopping the work to correct the situation is also expected).
  • Ensure that site is inspected and any public safety hazards are removed prior to leaving the site.
  • Supervise the workplace personally at all times or appoint a competent person to do so in their absence.
  • Conduct onsite toolbox safety meetings, and record all details.
  • Ensure inspections of tools and equipment are completed as required.
  • Ensure all injuries are treated, and reported to upper management and any required information or investigations are provided.
  • Cooperate with all regulatory agencies and Inspectors.

Salary:
From $80,000.00 per year
