Operations/ Logistics Supervisor in Ayr, Ontario

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT


Under the direction of the Ayr Hub Manager, the Operations Supervisor provides daily supervision of operations staff, as well as the day-to-day safe operation and maintenance and/or security of equipment and machinery of moderate capital value, such as grain and agronomy plant / mobile equipment.


SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP


Provides supervision and leadership of Operations staff and oversees the daily operations at Mitchell, Milverton, Monkton and Harmony locationsthe Ayr location.


Schedules shifts ensuring proper staffing requirements are met, as well as trains operational employees on proper operating procedures of equipment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


Assists and oversees shipping and receiving of products and services and ensures the proper receiving of product going in or out of the location is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.


Arranges work schedules and determines production and delivery priorities, based on the orders received and on a least cost basis.

Responsible for ensuring full utilization of assets and proper cleanliness practices are continuously being followed.

Ensures the overall appearance of the inside and outside of the premises is maintained in a professional and organized manner to promote and enhance the image of the Company.


Responsible for the continuous maintenance and safe operation of all equipment and assets related to the locations, ensuring the repairs of facilities and equipment are carried out on a least cost basis using preventative maintenance procedures and proper operating procedures.

May be required to drive and operate plant equipment and machinery, such as bobcat, forklifts and/or trucks safely.

This includes performing the required daily checks and proper maintenance to minimize risks, injury, and property damage, inside and/or outside the facility as required.

Operates equipment (i.e. forklifts, crop applicators) in accordance with established safety standards and proper vehicle operation techniques.


May be required to load and unload containers, pallets, or materials and products safely on trucks, trailers, or railcars by hand or by forklift truck.

Ensures all associated documentation, including bills of ladings and shipping tickets are accurate and completed according to schedule.

Ensures that product in storage meets quality standards and is stored and handled in a safe and organized manner.


May be required to blend fertilizer, weigh tanks, assists in inventory pre-listing and physical counting as required and creates blend sheets on daily production schedules for general fertilizer products, as well as pesticide combination products.

Counts inventory on a monthly basis and records this inventory on count sheets to be calculated by Branch Manager.


REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience


Normally requires a high school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of experience and training to provide the required knowledge and skills to safely operate transportation equipment, along with supervisory experience to provide daily leadership to all production personnel.

A current Ag Exterminator License, and/or Nutrient Technician License would be a definite asset.


Must also possess a valid driver's license (preferably class DZ), a driving abstract that represents a history of safe operation, as well as the ability to maintain insurability.

Understanding and experience with production scheduling, inventory management, equipment maintenance, operation records, and expense control.

Demonstrates ability to efficiently work with office computer programs in order to maintain inventory system, send and receive electronic mail, perform word processing, access information over the internet or intranet.


Demonstrates strong reasoning ability to solve practical problems, handle customer inquiries; operational issues, supervise staff and effectively explore alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain all parties' support and acceptance.


Demonstrates safe driving techniques, with ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely and efficiently in adverse road, weather, and traffic conditions; demonstrated time management such as determining cost efficient routes, and time efficient scheduling of deliveries.
