This role will provide an exciting opportunity to gain hands on experience within the Alberta power market and potentially others within Canada and the US as TC Energy works towards an expansion of our power generation footprint.
Reporting to the Manager, Power Real Time Trading, the Real Time Trader will work closely with business partners and management and to competently perform non-routine activities with mínimal supervision.
Overtime will be required and must be willing to work shift work on the trading desk including nights, weekends and holidays.

What you'll do
- Dispatch Alberta generation assets
- Transmission analysis, including assessment of transmission constraints, transmission provider practices and policies, services and costs in Alberta and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC)
- Transmission reservations on OASIS
- Scheduling of electricity in WECC
- Ancillary service trading and analysis
- Market analysis, including assessments of shortterm markets
- Work with RT Manager to develop day ahead and hour ahead offer strategies
- Trade execution, including hourly and daily
- Developing trading relationships with new counterparties
- Prescheduling energy deals
- Preparation of shift summary reports
- Compliance with internal limits and requirements, including credit and market exposure limits
- Accurate deal entry and reconciliation within Endur ETRM system
- University Degree or College Diploma in Business, Commerce, or Economics
- 2+ years of progressive experience within the energy industry
- Advanced computer skills particularly with Excel
- Working knowledge/understanding of the Power Industry
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Experience scheduling power within WECC and nominating gas on the TransCanada NGTL, Mainline, and Union Gas systems
- Selfstarter who can work with mínimal supervision and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
- Driven to continuously learn, improve and succeed
- Proven team player and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
