NAC is currently seeking Carpenters Apprentices to join our team, initially based on our Water Resource Recovery Facility in Erin, ON

    Position Summary:


Under the direction of Civil Superintendent the Apprentice Carpenter is responsible for assisting in the building, restoring and/or installing of structural formwork, concrete, wood and related materials.

This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry, specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry.

The Apprentice Carpenter must be proficient at the following tasks:

layouts, constructing and installing building materials, reading blueprints, and must possess mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates.


  • Build, layout and execute wooden forms and advanced formwork systems as required, according to specifications with the ability to make calculations depending on grades
  • Assist Carpenters with daily tasks and duties contributing to onsite daytoday operations
  • Ensure forms are properly designed and on grade to meet construction specifications for the project
  • Use of levels and measuring tapes in the use of setting forms to grade with mínimal supervision
  • Participate in Tool Box Talks daily and communicate any safety concerns
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment, and comply with all Health & Safety regulations
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
  • Keep a daily log of tasks
  • Respect and respond to direction given
  • Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed
  • Advise Journeypersons/Forepersons of any variances to schedule and/or material issues
  • Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations
  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures

Requirements:


  • 12 years of experience working in heavy construction
  • Must have advanced formwork experience (Doka or Logo form systems are an asset)
  • Flat concrete finishing experience is an asset
  • Experience with walls up to 5 meters
  • Experience working with circular formwork tanks is an asset
  • Ability to operate carpentry tools and required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to read building specifications, prints and asbuilds
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Hoisting and Rigging experience is an asset
  • Valid WHMIS, Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers and Working at Heights certificates are required.
  • Elevated/Aerial Work Platform and Confined Space training is an asset
