Fish & Aquatics Technical Lead

The Organization:

A.E.W.

LP was formed in 2017 by Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council member communities to carry out "on the ground" work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection.

This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka'pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects.

The Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council is not opposed to development within our homeland, but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka'pamux title and rights.


The Role:

A.E.W. Limited Partnership (A.E.W. LP) is seeking a full-time permanent Fish & Aquatics Technical Lead based out of Southern Interior or Lower Mainland, BC, to manage the development of a Fisheries Stewardship Plan and provide expert opinion in support of the review of fisheries and aquatic related activities within the Nlaka'pamux homeland.


We are in search of an intermediate/senior professional who has sound knowledge of fisheries & aquatics that can prepare proposals, manage budgets and schedules, oversee field programs and crew members, and ultimately be responsible for data and report quality.

Reporting to the Natural Resources Senior Project Manager, the Fish & Aquatics Technical Lead will:


  • Lead the design and implementation of fish and aquatic studies and field programs, and recommend and implement programs for population monitoring, habitat assessment and restoration and effectiveness monitoring, resource planning, and risk mitigation.
  • Perform statistical analyses on fisheries data.
  • Conduct assessments and author reports that characterize fish population and habitat impacts resulting from environmental changes, human activities, and harvesting practices.
  • Provide input on fish and fish habitat protection measures.
  • Collect, analyze and report on fish, fish habitat, and aquatic data.
  • Provide oversight on provincial and federal regulatory requirements related to work in and around water.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • M.Sc. in a fisheries or aquatics biology discipline is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree with sufficient courses in fisheries, aquatics ecology/management supplemented with appropriate experience will be considered.
  • Registered Professional Biologist designation in BC with the BC College of Applied Biology is preferred.
  • CABIN field certification
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in biology and fisheries science.
  • Possess a current and valid Canadian Driver's License.

  • Excellent organizational skills (prioritizing, time management, record keeping, follow up).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Previous experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Strong team player, selfmotivated and proactive thinker.
  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Adobe Acrobat.
