Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager, the Student Services Officer is a front-line representative for Student Services providing in-person, phone and virtual support for students and visitors to address presenting needs.

The position provides operational and database support to a wide range of Student Services operations to meet the needs of the department.


Responsibilities:


Administration and Communication

  • Provide office and event coverage inperson, virtually and through phone, acting as the first point of contact for students connecting to the Student Services department and ensure templates are updated.
  • Coordinate administrative details of Student Services projects, including timelines and schedules.
  • Update databases for various department processes such as social media requests and airport transportation bookings.
  • Liaise with other departments such as academic areas and/or Registration to support students with their academical and personal issues and appeals.

Collaboration and Support

  • Provide support to develop initiatives and support operations for peer mentoring.
  • Provide support for departmental events and social media.
  • Assist with training and selection of parttime student staff and student mentors.
  • Provide operations support for transition and settlement services, such as Orientation and workshops/events.
  • Research and develop strategies for the delivery of settlement services and resources for international students.

Qualifications:


Education

  • Two (2) year Diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience working with students or in an educational, administrative and/or community setting is required.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, database management and educational technology.

Skills

  • Welldeveloped customer service, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to interact effectively, with tact and diplomacy, with the college's diverse staff, students and public
  • Effective organizational, planning and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work quickly and to prioritize multiple projects
  • Welldeveloped critical thinking, problemsolving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • A selfstarter with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated competency using online information/database/electronic file management systems, Adobe, and Microsoft Office software (specifically Outlook, Words, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
