Position Summary


The Computational Biologist will be a key member of the research team at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre AI team working with the Chief AI Scientist and his team, contributing to precision medicine projects in cardiovascular disease.

The role involves leveraging cutting-edge genomic and proteomic technologies, big data analytics, and deep learning tools to enhance our understanding of cardiovascular diseases.

The Computational Biologist will play a pivotal role in integrating and analyzing data from various sources, including whole genome sequencing, epigenomes, transcriptomes, the PMCC biobank, and clinical data, to identify disease drivers and inform personalized treatment strategies.


Duties

  • Data Analysis and Integration:
  • Integrate genomic, proteomic, clinical, and imaging data using the Digital Cardiovascular Health Platform (DCHP).
  • Analyze whole genome and epigenome sequencing data from NovaSeq X Plus gene sequencing units.
  • Algorithm development

Collaboration and Networking:

  • Establish and maintain collaborations with other Canadian and International Centers for data sharing and biospecimen analysis.
  • Identify and engage in cofunding opportunities to support study costs.

Innovative Research Development:

  • Develop innovative approaches to analyze genomic and proteomic data in the context of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of research projects that align with the RFP's goals.

Clinical Application and Translation:

  • Work closely with clinical experts at PMCC to translate research findings into clinical insights.
  • Contribute to the development of personalized treatment strategies based on genomic and proteomic profiles.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation of research methodologies and findings.
  • Contribute to scientific papers and presentations for both academic and clinical audiences.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, a Bachelor's degree with 6 years related experience OR Masters' with 4 years related experience.
  • A Ph.
D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science or a related field with Equivalent experience is preferred

  • Proficiency in genomic and proteomic data analysis.
  • Experience with highthroughput sequencing data (e.g., WGS, RNA-Seq).
  • Strong skills in bioinformatics tools and databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting and managing largescale genomic or proteomic studies.
  • Familiarity with cardiovascular diseases research is an advantage.
  • Ability to develop novel approaches for data analysis and integration.
- proficiency in programming skills like python/R/shell scripts, exp in working in HPC environment and distributed version control systems like git

  • Experience working with large scale databases like UK Biobank
