    Main Purpose and Function

    The Human Resource Consultant is responsible for working strategically as a member of a decentralized HR team, providing consultative services on a wide range of human resource issues and opportunities to managers and staff of the business unit. In addition to working with a particular business unit, the Human Resources Consultant will be part of a broader HR team and will contribute to that work, potentially including participating in projects or taking on ongoing responsibilities within the larger organization.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    The HR Consultant will provide direction, coaching and support across a broad spectrum which includes: interpretation of collective agreement provisions and corporate policies, workforce planning, job and organization design, and performance management. You will plan and lead investigatory and disciplinary meetings, grievance hearings/discussions, and may participate in labour management meetings. The HR Consultant works closely with: other HR Consultants, HR Associates, all our other HR functions and with managers, staff, and our unions, to foster a positive employee and labour relations environment.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    Candidates will have a related university degree or diploma and considerable experience as a senior generalist role in a unionized environment (minimum of 5 years experience preferred)

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    The HR Consultant has an excellent track record and experience in a unionized setting providing generalist consultation to managers and in supporting and/or leading a diverse range of HR related processes, including complex investigations and grievance hearings. Skilled at anticipating business needs and identifying risks and opportunities, and moving to action, you are a proactive problem solver who has worked extensively in a rapidly changing environment. You possess strong communication, interpersonal, coaching, and facilitation skills and have demonstrated ability to build strong teams andrelationships.

    This position may require frequent travel between work sites, and as such, ability to travel between City sites is required.

    Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
