Nuseed Canada has an opportunity for a Research Agronomist, based in Saskatoon, Canada.

The role provides support of the execution of the Nuseed internally managed trials in Saskatchewan, working with other agronomists and breeding operations manager to obtain high quality trials and robust data sets.

The Research Agronomist will take a lead role in all aspects of R&D related work pertaining to the Canola program in NA and the US.

There will a significant amount of travel during peak times during the growing season, which could span from mid-March to November, depending on the region.

This will be an exciting opportunity to help set direction and be an integral part of a team and demonstrating an active and healthy R&D effort in the region.

This position may work closely with the team of commercial agronomists and business development and marketing staff in a unified effort to grow the Canola business in North America.


The opportunity:

Work with co-operators to oversee North American externally managed trials.


Lead field preparation for SK internally managed trials, from seeding to spraying and plot maintenance, timely data collection, subsampling and harvest.

Work with breeders to clarify expectations and priorities.

Work with other agronomists to maintain and update standardized data collection templates

Responsible for equipment purchase and some maintenance

Responsible for drone flights of the NA trials and assist with data processing.

Assist with harvest and subsample seed cleaning and facilitation of quality analysis

Assist sales group with field tours as required during season to aid with product acceptance by the market

During winter support updating SOPs and writing business cases

Responsible for summer student recruiting and supervising

Look for technologies that can potentially help the Canola program be more successful - e.g. seed coatings, growth regulators, soil amendments

Utilize modern technologies such as drone imaging to help increase accuracy and efficiency of data collected and interpretations of that data

Take careful observations, photos, and notes of the various trial types being conducted across western Canada as part of site visits

Arrange quality analysis of seeds or grain from the R&D program or on-farm trials

Key participant in Product Advancement meetings and other strategy setting meetings within Nuseed particularly for the Canola program


Ensure compliance with safety and environmental protocols pertaining to facility activities, such as use of proper PPE in laboratories and growth chambers.

Provide input to safety committee and local team to help continually improve safety protocols and procedures.

Role will require standing for prolonged periods of time and the ability to lift up to 60 lbs.

Maintain a good driving record and follow all local and company traffic laws and regulations, as this position will likely require significant road time in certain periods of the year

Most possess and maintain a valid driver's license

Be aware of and follow on-site protocols during visits to farms and research facilities

Help promote and encourage safety practices as part of the Nuseed Canada team, complete required trainings in a timely fashion
