Project Controls Analyst


Reporting to the Operations Services Manager and Project Manager, the Project Controls Analyst's responsibilities will focus on executing cost control activities through the preparation of numerous cost reports, monitoring trends, analyzing, updating forecast, change management and reporting on cost variance.

The Analyst is expected to regularly interface with Project Managers, Discipline Leads, Billing Team, Subcontractors, other project team members and clients to maintain accurate, updated information on project cost/budgets/billing.

A detail-oriented self-starter, team player, with strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational and communication skills are highly desired to work effectively with multiple stakeholders internally and externally.


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:


  • Monitor project budget, earned vs burned hours and/or costs, analyze risk and opportunities and provide feedback to the site project team.
  • Understand contract requirements, reconcile reimbursable expenses and hours vs paid and address with AR/billing team to ensure prompt billing to the client.
  • Provide billing support, when needed, and help with billing administration to include daily processing, corrections, data entry, filing, reconciling, and communicating discrepancies internally and to the client as needed.
  • Assist Project Manager in developing Project Controls Plan, implementing Project Controls system set up, update current processes to include project/client specific requirements.
  • Assist with cost forecast process, work with the client on required formats, prepare and submit Project Controls Reports at established frequencies internally and as required by the client.
  • Provide variance reporting and analysis to ensure any deviation from project plan is highlighted, analyzed, and reported as directed.
  • Validate subcontracts costs, investigate, and report any variances.
  • Generate Progress and Performance Curves
  • Create and manage daily, weekly, and monthly cost and progress reporting, as required by the project team/client.
  • Ensure that all reports and analyses are consistent, and deadlines are met.
  • Develop userfriendly tools and analyze raw data, interpret, and communicate results/corrective measures to the project team.
  • Assist with change management process and maintain change log.
  • Monitor KPI's and provide feedback and recommendations/ corrective measures to Project Management
  • Assist Site/Project Manager in developing Base Cost Estimates
  • Interact with internal stakeholders and client counterparts and meet their needs.
  • File management of records and reports necessary to comply with company/contract requirements and standards.
  • Host/Participate in progress meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Work with project team and participate in risk analysis sessions, provide feedback and recommendations/corrective measures to Project Management
  • Assist with performing risk management analysis and maintain risk register.
  • Ensure the project closeout process is aligned with corporate/client requirements.
  • Exercise proper time management skills & prioritize work; manage own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for shortterm work activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in the Oil Sands, Chemicals, Pulp & Paper, Power Generation or Mining Facilities
  • University degree or College Diploma in Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Business, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Must possess Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot excel spreadsheets/workbooks with formulas & macros and analyze raw data, interpret, and communicate results/corrective measures to the project team.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and scheduling in P6 is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of Earned Value Management System
  • Experience with Unifier, SAP, Penta, JD Edwards, CDMS, eLEM, Payroll, Accounting, Billing and Business Operations is preferred.
  • Must be detailed oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to present complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks.
