WATT Consulting Group Ltd. is seeking a Survey Articling Student (ALSA Pupil).


ROLE:


Reporting directly to the Operations Manager of Geomatics and being responsive to the Principal Alberta Land Surveyor, you will be responsible for playing a key leadership role in the day-to-day operations.

You will work closely with Land Surveyors, Project Managers, and technologists, on a wide variety of projects including UAV surveys, laser scanning, legal and construction surveys.

When in the field, you will be responsible for leading one or more two-person survey crews conducting subdivisions, site surveys, construction surveys, boundary surveys, and RPR's.

When in the office, you will be responsible for playing a key role within the Division performing drafting, design, and computations in support of all major projects.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • University degree or technical certificate in a recognized surveying program.
  • CBEPS qualification or nearing qualification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may vary from time to time; however, they essentially include:

Field Requirement Component (approximately 18-24 months)_

  • Act as Party Chief responsible for all aspects of surveying services using UAV's, scanners, GPS and total stations.
  • Act as mentor and supervisor for junior Party Chiefs and Surveyor's Assistants.
  • Provide critical and timely technical advice and judgment regarding interpretation of survey evidence and other survey matters to the Alberta Land Surveyor's as necessary.
  • Work with limited supervision and communicate regularly with Coordinator of Field Services, Alberta Land Surveyors/Project Managers and other key personnel on project details, scheduling, and project status.
  • Interpret a variety of technical drawings, architectural and legal plans, identify errors and omissions and recommend solutions.
  • Understand the requirements of the Land Titles Act and the Surveys Act and perform surveys in accordance with the ALS Manual of Standard Practice.
  • Maintain technical competence with field equipment and provide input into processes and use of technology.
  • Plan and execute timely and accurate surveys working outdoors in all weather and construction site conditions, including ability to work beyond normal working hours on an oncall basis.
  • Other duties as required.

Office Requirement Component (approximately 6-12 months)_

  • Coordination of fieldwork, office computations, drafting, processing and budget tracking.
  • Represent Watt Consulting Group in all communications with the client from initial effort, throughout the entire course of agreement activity, and in postagreement marketing activities on a regular basis.
  • Be jointly responsible with the Project Managers/ALS's for the management of assigned larger legal survey projects.
  • Act as senior technical consultant to project managers.
  • Generate complex computer drafting and design work under mínimal supervision including basic plans up to the complex larger subdivision plans, condominium plans and other plan types.
  • Progress through the articling process according to the ALSA regulations and bylaws.
  • Maintain technical competence in software platforms.
  • Initiate improvements in business processes and services.
  • Other duties as required.
