About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department and in accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, this position performs a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and medical devices for the operating room and various areas of the hospital.

In addition, this position performs related clerical duties and record keeping.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 1
  • Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (Course with practicum preferred)
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certification
  • Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred
  • Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferred
  • Previous experience working in the setting preferred
  • Experience operating MDR related equipment
  • Knowledge of Infection Control measures and Routine Practices
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve
  • An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
  • Computer experience
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Physical Demands:

Repetitive bending, repetitive lifting and carrying up to a maximum of 30 pounds, repetitive pushing and pulling carts up to a maximum of 400 pounds.

Constant standing and walking. Exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noise.


Where there are no applicants who have completed the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program, consideration for a Medical Device Reprocessing in Training may be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program or who commit to completing this program at their own expense within the first 14 months of employment (must submit proof of course enrollment within six weeks of being hired into the Medical Device Reprocessing in Training position).

Hours:


  • Permanent Fulltime; 75 hours biweekly
  • 8 hour rotating shifts, 365 days/year (including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays or other specific hours of shifts); on call may be required.
  • Travel to various sites may be required.
  • A skill test will be included as part of the selection process.

Compensation and Incentives:


Medical Device Reprocessing Technician:
$ $24.56 hourly

$25.42 hourly with 25 years experience

Medical Device Reprocessing Technician-in-Training
$20.03
