    About the Opportunity

    Reporting to the Health Services Manager or designate, the Music Therapist provides the assessed therapy needs to the residents of the Unit and works within the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Music Therapists as described by the Canadian Association for Music Therapy. Using a holistic care-giving and care-receiving approach, the Music Therapist respects the human dignity and acknowledges the various abilities of the residents. The Music Therapist works in collaboration with a team of professionals and exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the established philosophy, objectives, guidelines, legislations, policies and procedures, Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

    About You

    We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

    • Holds a baccalaureate in Music Therapy. (Bachelor Degree in Music Therapy, and completion of -hour clinical internship.)
    • Current registration with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy.
    • One year recent clinical experience would be considered an asset. (Minimum of one year combined experience in the delivery of music therapy in a healthcare setting. Experience with geriatric population would be considered an asset.)
    • Professional music skills including proficiency on piano or guitar and voice; and ability to improvise on primary instruction.
    • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team within an acute care environment.
    • Excellent oral, written and listening communication skills.
    • Ability to interact positively with residents, families, other health care providers and staff with a pleasant and cooperative attitude, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth.
    • Ability to adapt and understand residents' needs, assisting them in meeting their fullest physical and emotional potential within the prescribed therapy.
    • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and sound decision-making skills in crises situations.
    • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.
    • Basic computer skills – Microsoft – E-mail – Internet
    • Physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as the ability to use/play instruments; the ability to work with residents with various and sometimes challenging medical conditions; exposure to pets such as pet therapy dogs; and dealing with stressful situations relating to agitated, confused, aggressive or hostile behaviour of patients/residents.
    • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

    Hours

    • Permanent Part-time, 20% FTE; 15 hours biweekly

    Compensation and Incentives

    $ $39.23 Hourly
