HAND:
FOREST MACHINE OPERATOR

J.D. Irving, Limited, NS Woodlands Division is growing and seeking an additional Lead Hand for our Forest Machine Operators. Operations take place within Nova Scotia with the potential for travel into Eastern New Brunswick. Lead Hands will be expected to operate the equipment in a safe, efficient and productive manner according to J.D.

Irving, Limited's Best Management Practices, will be required to maintain productivity and utilization targets, and work independently in remote environments.

Performance of general daily maintenance and repairs is required.

  • Education Required: High School diploma at a minimum
  • A valid Nova Scotia Drivers License and access to reliable, all wheel drive transportation
  • Experience working in a supervisory or foreman role
  • 15 years of experience operating machinery in a forestry operation, or operating heavy machinery in another context
  • General heavy equipment mechanical skills OR Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate will be considered an asset

Key Responsibilities:


  • Operate harvesting machinery in an efficient, and productive manner according to J.D. Irving, Limited's Best Management Practices
  • Perform general daily machine maintenance and repairs as required
  • Schedule machines for regular repairs and servicing
  • Hold operators accountable for meeting production targets and safety standards
  • Coordinate with Harvesting Supervisors via daily/weekly/and monthly meetings
