Wellington-Baseline Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant to support our veterinary team in providing quality, compassionate care for our patients.
Our ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a friendly personality and be a motivated, flexible team player. As a small independent veterinary clinic located in London, we are looking for someone who can multitask and assist with the various roles in the clinic.
While our immediate priority is at reception, to cover for a leave of absence, we are hoping to find a candidate suitable for a combination receptionist/assistant position.
Duties
The receptionist is the initial point of contact and the first impression for clients. A receptionist is expected to be able to:
- Greet clients and their pets with warmth and professionalism upon arrival and departure.
- Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments efficiently.
- Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and manage client communications
- Maintain accurate patient records and update medical histories
- Process payments and hand billing procedures accurately
- Coordinate communication between clients and veterinary staff to facilitate smooth workflow
Veterinary Assistants are primarily responsible for assisting veterinarians and technicians to make sure our patients get the best possible care. A veterinary assistant is expected to:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with tasks related to the restraint, examination and treatment of patients
- Maintain clean and sterile conditions in the exam and operating rooms.
- Feed and care for animals in hospital.
- Perform some laboratory testing and assist in radiology.
- Prepare animals for surgery and assisting during surgical procedures.
- Prepare and administer medication under the direction of a veterinarian
- Communicate with pet owners to gather patient history, provide updates on pet health and assist in with client education
Qualifications
- Completion of a veterinary assistant program or equivalent experience in a veterinary setting is strongly preferred.
- Physical ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes safely and effectively
- Knowledge of basic animal behaviours and care
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with clients and team members
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Positive attitude and the ability to use courtesy, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with clients.
