Work Schedule

• 45 to 55 hours per week
• No fixed schedule; based on demands

Responsibilities:

• Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials and direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade;
• Fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured cement;
• Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification;
• Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools;
• Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures;
• Hand shape and finish concrete in plastic form, specifically concrete curbs, gutter and barrier curbs;
• Establishing control joints, for shrinkage and expansion of concrete; and
• Controlling slump to meet design placement

Education
Completion of secondary school is usually required


Employment Requirement and Skills

• Ability to handle heavy loads (50lbs);
• Ability to hand shape and finish concrete in plastic form, specifically concrete curb, gutter and barrier curb;
• Ability to establish control joints, for shrinkage and expansion;
• Ability to control slump to meet design placement;
• Ability to read blueprints and build to design cuts and fills; and
• Ability to ensure gutter properly flows towards structures.

Experience
4 to 5 years work as concrete finisher
