JOB SUMMARY:


The Planning & Scheduling unit is responsible to maintain unit assets in reliable operating condition, optimize maintenance and capital expenditures, and manage the traffic operations maintenance management system and master data.

Unit assets consist of traffic signals, intersections equipped with audible signals, Traffic Video Cameras, Red Light Cameras, fibre optic cable, regulatory, warning, and information signs, pavement markings, streetlights, the Computerized Traffic Control Centre, and manufacturing facilities for traffic signs, traffic signal, video and control equipment.


You are responsible for work system management in the area of planning, scheduling and optimizing maintenance and repair for Traffic Services.


Responsibilities include the creation of work orders and ensuring financial cost settlements are accurate; determining the required materials to reserve and charge out in the system or ordering new material from stores.

You also serve as a technical expert for work scheduling, understanding the operational and technical aspects of traffic in all areas (traffic control repairs, signage, camera installation etc.) and performing scheduling activities in order to optimize traffic maintenance and repair within the Branch.

You coordinate work with various internal and external partners and have overall responsibility for data quality of all work management system data.

You provide regular reporting to all managers for their respective programs.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in engineering technology or business administration.

Minimum of 5 years of related traffic operations or maintenance planning experience


CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES:

Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT is desirable


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Financial processes within the City of Ottawa including purchasing, inventory and cost center accounting and MarkView system
  • Preventive maintenance programs
  • Computerized maintenance management systems (SAP)
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel spreadsheet software
  • Typical equipment operating and maintenance principles
  • Confined space rules and regulations
  • Maintenance management principles
  • Ontario Ministry of Transportation Traffic Manual Book 7 (Temporary Conditions)
  • Highway Traffic Act
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

  • Organize preventive maintenance activities within the functionality of the MMS (SAP) software system to produce a preventive maintenance schedule
