Housing Worker (with Food Security)

Position Description:

The Housing Support Worker promotes housing stability and supporting health, wellness and community belonging for the residents at Indwell's Railway City Lofts Program.

They will participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team supporting the therapeutic rehabilitation, and care for individuals within the program with a specific focus on Food Security.

This is a specialized housing program serving individuals who have experienced long term housing instability and/or long stay hospitalizations.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Flexibility is required to meet program needs. Scheduled shifts may fall any time within a 24 hour day, 7 days a week, including public holidays. Participation in the shared 24/7 on-call schedule is required.


Duties For This Position Include:


  • Interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Crucial to housing stability and health, wellness and belonging of our residents, is the ability of our staff members to work collaboratively with each discipline to offer supports.


  • Relationship building

  • Building longterm therapeutic relationships with residents, using a recovery oriented approach, supporting trauma informed care, and promoting hope and trust.


  • Housing stability

  • Provide team leadership by supporting tenants in activities related to housing stability (activities of daily living, rent payment, apartment checks).


  • Food Security

  • Work alongside residents to maintain food security by leading programming, connecting to foodrelated social services, and surveying residents to assess hopes and needs to improve existing food supports.
  • Support our daily hot meal program: Work with food providers to ensure it meets a high standard.


  • Food Safety

  • Support the training of staff related to food safety, support the maintenance of a food safe environment. Ensure compliance with all applicable health standards, food safety, and regulations.


  • Primary Case Management

  • Be responsible for a number of primaries and support the development of their service plan, monitor their progress, and communicate the service plan and tasks to the team and other external resources. It is expected that residents meet intentionally with their primary worker at least 1x per week.


  • Programming

  • Plan and facilitating programs and groups (food security programming experience an asset) that reinforce individual's life skills, social and community skills, health, wellness, and belonging.


  • Intake

  • Assisting with admission and orientation of new residents.
  • Participation in Daily program tasks
  • Medication administration, respond to resident needs, weekly apartment checks, supply and track harm reduction materials, distribute daily meal, participate in team meetings and the oncall rotation, record daily shift notes, and other duties as required.
  • Participate in creating a safe and healthy environment.

Education/Experience:
Post-secondary education and related experience.


Salary:
$43,700-51,900 annual salary based on education and experience. Indwell offers a competitive benefits package and RRSP contribution.
